For amplifier redundancy switching, the redundancy function can be located on the amplifiers or on a separate controller. Amplifiers can accommodate simple systems, while separate controllers are required for more complex systems. Regardless of where the redundancy or switching decision is made, the decision depends on the status of the amplifiers. All Xicom systems rely on hardware-summarized fault signals for amplifier status, that is, fault relay rescued contacts as it provides the most robust and fast way to auto-switch. Additional monitor and amplifier control are communicated between amplifiers and controllers, if necessary, via serial or Ethernet communications.
